Spiritual Corner - Divine Mercy Sunday

Posted : Apr-10-2026

Brothers and Sisters in Christ: Every year, the Church celebrates the Second Sunday of Easter, and at the same time, we celebrate “Divine Mercy Sunday” as well. This special feast was established by the former Pope, St. John Paul II in year 2000. This was introduced in response to Jesus’ enlightenment to St. Faustina. It emphasizes the infinite mercy of God, appeals to sinners to repent, and the faithful who participate in the event will be granted special blessing of plenary indulgence.

Jesus instructed St. Faustina, “There are three ways to provide good to our neighbors: by deed, word, and prayer. In these three degrees is contained the fullness of mercy, and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. By this means a soul glorifies and pays reverence to My mercy.” (Diary, 742)

According to the instruction of the Church, in order to obtain plenary indulgence, the faithful should, on Divine Mercy Sunday. recite the Divine Mercy Chaplet Prayer and show reverence, or to say the Lord’s Prayer and the Creed in front of the Tabernacle and in addition, say a prayer in reverence of the mercy of Jesus, such as “Merciful Jesus, I trust in You”, at the same time, in accordance with the rule of the Church, to make a good confession on or 20 days before or after Divine Mercy Sunday, receive Holy Communion and pray for the intention of the Pope.

This year, the Divine Mercy Sunday Prayer and Veneration will be held on April 12 at 3:30p.m. in our parish. Let us prepare our hearts and receive this blessing together in order to imitate the kind face of Jesus in deed, word and prayer. Let this face of mercy echo in our community, in our home and among our friends, in our workplace and in school. Let mercy lead to more mercy, then the heavenly kingdom will be present among us.

Your Pastor,
Fr. Francis Chong
