Spiritual Corner - Are You the King of the Jews?

Posted : Mar-31-2023

You say so. Jesus is not only the King of the Jews but also the King of the world. His kingdom is a kingdom of truth and life, of holiness and grace, of justice, love and peace. A good king, a gentle king, who cares for the well-being of our souls. He came to this world out of love and he died out of love.

Jesus went to Jerusalem knowing full well what awaited him – betrayal, rejection, and crucifixion. Jesus arrived in Jerusalem astride a colt, a sign of peace and a fulfillment of the prophecy of Zechariah (9:9). He entered the Holy City in meekness and humility. He has come to offer victory over sin and peace to his people.

The people of Jerusalem, however, were ready to hail him as their Messianic King. They spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the road. The crowds preceding him and those following kept crying out and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest” (Mt 21:9-9). Yet, little did they know, in a few days, they would be shouting, “Crucify him! Crucify him! ”.

Jesus Christ came to bring us the kingdom of God. He is the true King who offers himself on the cross for peace, joy and everlasting life for those who accept his kingship. A King “though he was in the form of God, did not deem equality with God, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death - even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:6-11).

Will the King of glory find a welcome in your heart and home? Will you receive Him with joy and gratitude?

Hosanna, Hosanna!

Yours,
Deacon Thomas Ku
