Spiritual Corner -- I Am a Christian?

Posted : Jan-05-2024

“I am a Christian, what great glory! After baptism, I become Jesus’s soldier. Now I sing to express my love. I am a Christian, I am a Christian.” We sing this song at every baptism! Yes, we are Christians, and we are proud to be one, but we should not be any of the following ten types of Christians:

  1. Do not be a “Sunday Christian” who only comes to church on Sundays, but does not read the Bible or pray in ordinary time.
  2. Do not be a “Feast Day Christian” who only comes to church on feast days but not even on Sundays.
  3. Do not be a “CEO Christian” who comes to church on Christmas and Easter only for “bustling”.
  4. Do not be a “church Christian” who is a Christian only when in church, but remains secular after stepping out of the church.
  5. Do not be an “ungrateful Christian” who prays des-perately at hard times, but forgets God’s grace when life is smooth.
  6. Do not be a “polytheistic Christian” who, though be-lieves in God, is not firm enough; so he/she also believes a little in other “gods”.
  7. Do not be a “hidden Christian” who dares not admit himself/herself to be a Christian in front of others, but sed-ulously hides his/her faith and may even enter the church furtively.
  8. Do not be an “egoistic Christian” who only cares about his/her own salvation, but not that of the others, thinking that it is not of his/her concern. Do not forget, though, we all have the mission of evangelization.
  9. Do not be a “donor Christian” who donates money every time, but never participates in church activities and remains distant from the church.
  10. Do not be a “secular Christian” who, though believes in Christ, still like any other person in the world, seeks only secular matters and pleasures.
