Spiritual Corner -- The Word, The Word of God

“And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said,” Here I am, for you called me.” Then Eli perceived that the Lord was calling the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down, and if he calls, you shall say, ‘Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.” (1 Samuel 3:8-10) It took some time for Eli to understand.

“Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.” When Mary graciously and wholeheartedly responded to God’s invitation with “I am here”, she firmly decided to serve God and mankind, and became a role model of obedience to the will of God.

When Chiara Lubich meditated on this, she wrote the following, “To fulfill his plan, God chooses only those who humbly surrender to his will as servants.”

We can find the presence of God and listen to his words in our daily life. But, do we have the courage to respond or do we still have to discern whether the words are true or false?

To help us put into action these words of the Lord, we should learn to be humble like Mary. We should wholeheartedly accept and realize that they are not words from human but Words from God.

Reflection: Be courageous to frequently say, “Speak Lord, for your servant hears.” Or say, “I am the servant of the Lord; let it be done to me according to your word.”

Do you believe in what God says to you? Are you courageous enough to respond like Samuel and Mary?

Yours,
